Game Notes: Stars Return, Brash Out, New Lines

Based on this morning’s skate, it looks like all three injured players who missed friday night’s loss to the Wild will be back in the lineup today. Marian Gaborik, Christopher Higgins and Sean Avery will all return and try to give this club a spark as part of a revamped lineup put together by Coach Tortorella following two tough losses. Donald Brasher (out again and maybe a candidate to stay out until he’s fully healthy or waived) will be replaced in the lineup by Dane Byers, who had a very strong first game the other night and earned more playing time.

Here are the line combos based on the morning skate:

Enver Lisin-Vinny Prospal-Marian Gaborik
Christopher Higgins-Chris Drury-Brian Boyle
Sean Avery-Artem Anisimov-Ales Kotalik
Dane Byers-Brandon Dubinsky-Ryan Callahan

As always things might change but this lineup looks to maximize the offense of all 4 lines. There is no typical checking line and Torts should be able to roll 4 lines without having to worry about not getting quality scoring opportunities.

The defensive pairings will remain intact and Henrik Lundqvist will once again be in goal. Tim Thomas (4-4-0, 2.86 GAA) will get the start for the Bruins who are without Marc Savard (broken foot) and Milan Lucic (broken finger).

The Rangers are struggling and need a strong performance today. Boston is without two of their top offensive players and All-World defenseman Zdeno Chara has yet to score a goal this season. This could be the perfect opportunity for the Rangers to get back on the winning side of the ledger.
